Born with a Different Perspective

Brought into this world in 1996 with a congenital cataract in my left eye, I never understood what life could be like with dual vision. When I was nine weeks old, the cataract was removed. Over time, my brain never made the connection between both eyes, making my vision monocular. I have never known what it is like to have a cone of vision or to even see clearly out of my left eye; I never will.

To practice with various mediums and to be an artist, for me, is to see. This passion has helped me to understand depth perception, infused with lessons on discipline and confidence. Finding beauty in the mundane and painting little details is where I find meaning. My disability has challenged me greatly, but I refuse to live a life without art.
